Don't look back
to a past that might have been,
when in quiet moments
you have chance to dream.
Feel no regret for words unspoken;
guard your memories, as a token
of a tender love
that's lasted through the years,
and love like that
shouldn't give you cause for tears.
Now the space between us lengthens
as I watch you turn,
and start to walk away...
I hope that my will strengthens,
for my being longs to call to you
"Please stay!"
while I watch you turn,
and start to walk away...
Don't look back,
now it's time for us to part,
for if you do,
you might see a broken heart...
Once again, Tess at Magpie Tales has got me going with her unusual choice of photograph, which eventually produced this rather odd result, for a Jinksy....
And of course, Open Link Monday ties in so well at Imaginary Garden...
It's a beautiful piece, Jinksy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, I felt the love and the loss. Thank you!
ReplyDeletetenderly breath-taking!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Jinksy, especially the last line.

A lovely post... thankyou.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a looking back- even yearning; thanks.
ReplyDeleteExcellent piece!
ReplyDeleteSomething of the first part put me in mind of Langston Hughes' style. Very fine piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteawww...yeah its best not to look back...far too much to see if you do...

ReplyDeleteyeah you def dont want to look back...far too much emotion in what you may see...and false promises....
ReplyDeleteNice - I love the repetition, so reminiscent of many (metaphorical at least) backward glances before we can make our peace with 'goodbye,' and
ReplyDeletelove like that
shouldn't give you cause for tears.
Great take on the prompt.
your words enabled me to see that farewell dance...nicely done.
ReplyDeleteyou mare revealing a soft side I don'toften see Jinksy!
ReplyDeleteIsabel! Why does that make me a mare?! Is it a typo, or are you jealous? *smiles*
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, Jonksy... no need for the picture, the words said it all.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly moving - well done you:)
ReplyDeleteLovely for a Jinksy I would say ...
ReplyDeleteI love your thinking, here, particularly that which you express at the beginning. Regret is so pointless, and it's sweet when harmless feelings stick with us over the years. Well done.
ReplyDeleteLove the thoughts in this Jinksy....beautifully written! :-)
ReplyDeleteA photo with a 1000 words.
ReplyDeleteletting go is hard, but it is a relief in many senses.
ReplyDeletelovely magpie.
You've cropped the photo so well! It brings out the longing that, of course, goes with your poem. Very lovely. K.
ReplyDeletei love the start, and the finish - oh heck i like the middle too - great writing Jinksy
ReplyDeletea broken heart is so sad and melancholy...
ReplyDeletehappy monday to you ~
Well done - haunting piece.
ReplyDeleteNicely done. It brings back a very old memory from 46 years ago. No longer painful but still somewhat introspective.
ReplyDeleteLovely, poignant poem, Pen.
ReplyDeleteaww, so sad to see a broken heart. touching piece :)
ReplyDeleteso you have separated her from all her chairs..smiles..and good to not look back..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and poignant. Your reworking of the image rightfully focusses in on the central character - yes the chairs are a distraction!
ReplyDeleteFine writing - only thing, I thought she was looking back at me. I wanted to encourage that.
ReplyDeleteThat's so touching - speaks to me, and many I'm sure. And, lol I like the way you dealt with those silly chairs ;-)
ReplyDeleteso true.we've all been there i guess at some point or another.lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteLovely piece, Jinksy, I hope its not from experience, no-one would dare break our Jinksy's heart!
ReplyDeleteVery touching and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and poignant piece Jinsky. Your words are truly lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful - you captured the poignant feeling of longing in the photograph. I especially like the opening lines:
ReplyDelete"Don't look back
to a past that might have been,
when in quiet moments
you have chance to dream."
Beautifully written.. "Feel no regret for words unspoken", excellent.. The words and the image, a package deal!! :))
ReplyDeleteLovely, Jinksy. The whole story is there, in gorgeous language. Thank you.
ReplyDeletesuch an intelligent take ... loved it :)
