For Breakfast

Thank you to Tess at Magpie Tales who posted a picture by Michael Sowa, from The Little King, which immediately set my mind zooming in to focus on one detail -  the morning cuppa! This is quite ironic, as I actually don't drink tea...

Colour my tea blue
on a day which starts without you.
I'll toast "To my love."

Because you are the sugar
which makes my life sweet.

And I've just discovered this fits Poetry Jam to a T this week! How's that for good luck?

  1. A fine ditty
    for a morning
    in the wan sun
    of the central city
    though I'm still seeking
    a cinnamon bun.

  4. A nice respite from the heavier entries, and nice too how the king is unspoken, but probably there.

My Magpie 86 entry is Cepheus.

  17. I believe it was the Casinos that had a song (back in the 60s?) called Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye. It was placed in the repertoire of songs I’ve sung, whistled and hummed every since. One of the lines was “Sweeten my coffee with a morning kiss.” Your poem reminds me to that, and it is a pleasant memory.
