Poetry Bus For 7th March

The Stammering Poet, Peter Goulding  is going to be in the driving seat on Monday, and for my ticket I've attempted to write a kind of Rondeau though I'm not too sure if the metre is supposed to be as flexible as mine is! Anyhow, the rhyme scheme is as it should be - what more do you want - blood?!

Shrove Tuesday Cometh

Pancake day is fun! You must agree
whether they're for breakfast lunch or tea
both old and young enjoy a feast
of one or two at very least -
or maybe even three!

Imagine you can see
a hungry family -
an empty tummied beast...
Pancake day is fun!

I'm glad I learned to cook at mother's knee
this tried and trusted favourite recipe.
It doesn't include any yeast
or fragrant spices from the East,
only plenty love, for you from me!
Pancake day is fun!

And on the same subject, here's a Sunday 160 for Monkey Man!

The table top is bare, but for plates sticky with lemon slices (squeezed) and sugar grains (scattered). Their flavours enrapture our senses every pancake day.

  1. Are you taking part in a pancake race on Tuesday, Jinksy? I can just see you charging along, frying pan in hand ;-)

  2. I can't find any rules about line length, so your ticket is perfectly acceptable on two counts, Jinksy. Funny how I always feel a bit better in myself after visiting your site!

  6. A squeeze of lenon,
    A spoon of sugar,
    Knife and fork in hand,
    this taste is so grand.

  10. I love pancakes! I need to go make some, now. I used to make the kids Mickey Mouse. OK, all those circles weren't very creative. Star Wars? Brian leaves me in awe!

  12. Nine to see someone else still brave enough to write some in traditional forms. Nice little 160, too.

  14. Is there a better subject to evoke the senses than food? Well done. I cannot remember the last time I had pancakes, but you've inspired me to quench the drought.

  16. Dear Jinksy, (Ms.Smith?) I enjoyed your rondeau here as much as I'm sure I would enjoy your pancakes.
I do not usually link to my own poems from comments. The reason I do so here is that I have noticed on your other blogs and in your comments that you have a poor opinion of "comment moderators" and the endless, inane awesomes which seem to be the worst than one is allowed to say about another's work. So I thought you might like to read THIS, which I have not yet (dare not?) offered to the Bus Driver - who seems himself to have missed the point.

  17. Lucy Westenra - Go to the top of the class...or the front of the bus! THIS was masterful!

  18. Ah lovely poem - makes me think of my kids excited faces tomorrow :)

(Suspect my comment won't sit well with Ms Westenra! At least I didn't say awesome? :o)

  19. Domestic Oub - Not getting an 'Awesome' is always a blessing! I think Lucy simple wants people to start speaking the truth in their comments, as well as meting out some constructive criticism here and there - which I would welcome with open arms.

  21. I'm afraid I'm going to have to steal these lines for the rest of my life;

    'It doesn't include any yeast
or fragrant spices from the East,'

    Brilliant!
