Contrasts are the spice of life

Plain English is a communication tool people use in many places around the world. As an English person born and bred, I felt compelled (for fun) to dig out this rather astonishing snippet that I created way back in 2009, when a partaker of Fridge Soup listed (in a random order) all the strange-looking words.  My verse does make sense, once you hit a dictionary! :-)

Words, words, words...

A daysypigal hound with a dose of cynanthropy,
I'm still a romantic inclined to philosophy.
I'm not furfuraceous or given to ticks,
but ichthyomancy is one of my tricks,
as I'm geniculate, pre omphaloskepsis -
I guess folks may wonder what the heck that is?
I am known for philanthropy rather than love;
I pray any qualtagh, who's sent from above,
will be no snollygoster, but a good friend of mine,
otherwise why are they wasting my time?

Looking Backwards...

  Not a sensible thing to do, if one is trying to move forwards! But as clocks never need to contemplate such an action, it seems only fitting for me to ponder upon the subject on their behalf, as my bedtime approaches...

The UK has always had a reputation for 'dodgy' weather (more wet than dry) but now, thanks to global warming, unpredictable ocean currents and rapidly melting ice caps, we are often at the mercy of unseasonable heat. Up to 30°C temperatures forecast in May or June, was something that never happened when I was a youngster; I hear those words echo in my skull, and my brain interrupts, askance.

"What? Am I old now? Surely not?"

But when I see the white haired octogenarian I never imagined being, peering at me from a mirror, I have to admit the truth, and grin and bear it!
