See The Connection?

The one between life and laughter, I mean - though cooking and recipes connect well, too! Poetry Jam is responsible for this mixture.

Cooking is a gentle art –
until one day it falls apart
and best laid plans of recipes
come unstuck, for all to see!
A cake that’s soggy in the middle
will maybe give the cook a giggle,
when he sees the state it’s in,
before he lobs it in the bin!

But one ingredient never mentioned,
even by the well intentioned,
is a special sense of humour.
It’s a fact, not just a rumour,
that laughing at the trials of life
will add a very special spice
to every dish,  both sweet and savoury
and it won’t add a single calorie!

  1. I'd hope that the above-mentioned soggy cake wouldn't be someone's birthday cake, or I sure wouldn't be laughing! I definitely agree that humor is a wonderful ingredient to add to anything.

    Here's mine:

    1. Having come from a family of good cooks, I'm glad to say I have few disasters ... only enough to keep me human. Hehehe!
But spectacular ones remain with me - choux pastry with eggs omitted (yuk), custard burnt to a cinder, and a Christmas cake which was so hard baked,( not burnt, though ! ) it failed to break when I threw it on a concrete path...

  3. LOL I'm giggling here because cooking, especially baking is a BIG 'no no' to me. I hate it and am a disaster in the kitchen. But, we get by :)

  9. Wow, I really like your sense of humor in this poem. Most of the time we are too serious. And you can read mine here, because I can't comment with my URL and I'm not recognizable by this Google profile :-):

    1. As one who has suffered from verbal diarrhoea since birth(!) most of my 'secrets' have already been revealed since I started blogging over on Napple Notes.

Alias Jinksy was born to steer clear of too much waffle, by restricting writing to poems or very short prose pieces.

So although I'm sure I'm one lucky ducky, pardon me for not playing this game!

  16. Yes Yes! Baking without humour is like life without baking powder! (Eh?. Something wrong with that?)

  17. Oh yes! A good sense of humor is vital. I remember when I was first dating my (future) husband, I tried and failed to make him a key lime pie. It came out totally liquidy. I was in tears. The sweetheart that he is, he put it in the freezer and ate it like an icecream cake!
